Jaga heat pump radiators with Dynamic Boost Hybrid (DBH) technology are a step beyond traditional radiators. Equipped with Jaga’s DBH booster set—an electric fan system designed specifically for Low-H2O radiators—they deliver increased heating capacity without requiring a larger radiator. Plus, they offer the added benefit of optional low-energy cooling.
Because heat pump radiators with DBH differ from conventional steel panel radiators, we often receive questions about how they work. So if you’re considering installing them, you may find our FAQs blog helpful. Or if you already have them in place, read on for helpful insights and answers to common questions.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TPT & ACO CONFIGURATION?
DBH push-button control panel
DBH has a simple, push-button control panel to adjust settings and modes, with automatically dimming, coloured LED lights to indicate the selected setting. The way this control panel operates varies slightly depending on the configuration you choose. When ordering your hybrid product, you must select your preferred configuration as this is pre-set by our factory during manufacture.
TPT (Temperature control)
This configuration has a mode button which can be used to switch between heating and cooling modes. Thermal activators run once the water temperature is above set-point (28°C is default) and the measured room temperature is below the set-point, speeding up and slowing down to achieve the desired room temperature. Boost mode can be activated where thermal activators run at maximum speed for 15 minutes.
ACO (Auto-changeover)
This configuration automatically switches between heating and cooling thanks to its accurate room and water temperature sensors. Thermal activators run based on the water temperature and chosen fixed speed. The ACO mode has 3 operating positions (speed 1, 2 & 3), and Breeze mode can be selected whereby the thermal activators operate independently of water temperature, helping circulate the air in a room.
WHY AREN’T MY FANS RUNNING?
DBH upgrade setCheck that your heating system is switched on.
Ensure the TRV head on your radiator is set at 5 to allow full water flow.
If you’ve checked the points above and the fans are still not running, this could be due to the water temperature. Briefly push the Mode button and if the LED lights start flashing or blinking, it means there is low water temperature in heating mode, or the water is too warm in cooling mode. To solve this issue, simply increase or decrease the water temperature setting on your heating system.
Check that the radiators air temperature sensor is visible below the bottom of the radiator casing. If it’s not, you may have to remove the casing to see where the sensor is and move it accordingly. You may also need to check that the water temperature sensor is correctly fitted between the fins of the heat exchanger and not on the pipework outside the brackets. Note: please refer to the fitting instructions to remove the radiator casing.
WHY IS MY RADIATOR MAKING A ‘TICKING’ NOISE WHEN THE FANS ARE RUNNING?
There may be a foreign object stuck under the fans from installation. Remove the radiator casing and check beneath the fans for any objects or debris. We would advise that you have your radiators serviced every year to ensure they’re running as efficiently as possible.
WHY ARE MY FANS MAKING A NOISE ALL THE TIME?
This noise may not be the fans, but the volume of water being pushed through the system may be too high. This problem occurs if the heating system wasn’t balanced correctly at time of installation. A further problem that might occur from your system not being properly balanced is that some radiators may not get as warm as others as they are not receiving the same water flow, so contact your installer to have this checked out. If you don’t know your installer, you can find a local JagaPro Installer here.
WHY ARE THE LIGHTS DIMLY FLASHING ON MY CONTROL PANEL AND WHY AREN’T MY FANS RUNNING?
This may be because the air and water temperature sensors are incorrectly fitted or not fitted at all. Please contact your installer to have this checked out.
WHY DO MY FANS RUN FOR SO LONG AFTER THE HEATING HAS GONE OFF?
This is simply down to the length of time it takes for the water temperature in the heating element to drop below 28°C, which is the default water temperature setting. Once the water temperature has cooled down, the fans will stop running.
WHY ARE MY FANS COMING ON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT EVEN WHEN THE HEATING IS OFF?
If you have an ACO configured DBH unit, the fans might run more regularly because the water and room temperatures are set so close together. The DBH unit will automatically switch between heating or cooling when the water temperature is either 4°C above or 2°C below room temperature, and the fans will run at the speed last selected. To prevent the fans from running through the night, try and adjust the water temperature setting on your heating system so that the differential is higher between the water and room temperature.
