The redeveloped building retains its 1930’s facade but is now designed to BREEAM Excellent standards and has achieved an ‘A +’ rated Energy Performance Certificate. Sustainable measures include solar panelling, rainwater harvesting and the supply and installation of energy-efficient heating solutions by Jaga.
For discreet heating throughout public areas, Mini Canal natural trenches - with DNA Designo rigid aluminum grilles - have been used to suit the internal layout and different depth of floor voids. In other areas the slim line Strada radiators, incorporating Low-H20 technology, maintain a comfortable ambient temperature and reduce energy costs. The extensive use of glazed facades also necessitated space heating that would still allow uninterrupted vision through the facade.
Mini Freestanding radiators were chosen for their unobtrusive, attractive appearance and powerful heat output. In the imposing Council House, a heating solution that provides well distributed heat in the large space and makes an aesthetic statement was required. The ideal solution was Jaga’s award-winning Aplano Plus.
